Modern and Mobile: VLE Relaunch

The Undergraduate Laws Programme has been working to improve the Laws VLE together with the online learning resources provided to students through it. Recent redevelopments have made the website more attractive and easier to use, as well as improving accessibility to the VLE.

Visitors to the VLE will find a refreshed front page where topics are grouped under four headings (My Courses, Study Support, Programme Information and Keeping in Touch). All the information from the old website will remain but navigation between pages will be smoother.

In some instances the learning materials and content has been improved or updated on the Courses pages and immediately users will notice the video introductions, which we are gradually developing for each course. This introduction is given by the Subject Convenor and will give students an overall view of the course, its place in the programme and a short discussion on the study materials.

As well as the new icons directing users to specific materials on the course webpage, resources are now grouped together for each chapter. Over time you will find each chapter heading on the webpage will contain the relevant sections of the Subject guide, the audio files, the study pack, external links and contextualised formative assessment.

Most of our users log on to the VLE through a computer or laptop however, taking into account the increasing use of mobile technology, our redevelopment has enabled us to improve access from a variety of devices. Over 15 percent of visitors to the Laws VLE currently use mobile devices so the new VLE has been developed to ensure content displays better on a smaller screen.

Measures have also been taken to ensure the content is accessible to users with slower internet connections and to users who would prefer larger text or different colours.

Developments to the VLE are ongoing and the Undergraduate Laws Programme is continually improving the content and resources available to students. You will notice further changes as the site is improved over the next few months but if you have any questions or feedback about the new VLE, please contact lawsonline@london.ac.uk.
