The John H Carey School of Law at the Anglo- American University (AAU) in Prague, a Registered Centre of the University of London, held a Mooting Competition for other invited institutions from the 21st-23rd March. The event, which was supported by the University of London, drew teams from the Institute of Law, Jersey, Empire Africa Institute, Ghana and Middlesex College of Law, UK. The mooting problem was issued some months in advance and students had to prepare to present their arguments.

Assistance was provided by dedicated team coaches while all students also had to research the relevant law. Students made submissions before an international panel of judges who asked searching questions of the teams. Two days of Mooting resulted in the final between the teams from Ghana and Jersey. It was a tough decision but the team from Jersey just made it as the overall winners. They also took the prize for best Orallist. The teams from Prague and Jersey tied in the prize for best Memorial.  The final was also attended by the Ambassador for Ghana and Patricia McKellar, Associate Director of the ULP. This was an excellent initiative led by AAU, to practice key skills required by lawyers as well as in other spheres of employment ( e.g. critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, teamwork, making judgments and many more). Students and attending staff were encouraged to inspire others to take up Mooting to improve their skills acquisition.

There is also an extended feature on the Mooting competition in London Connection.
