Law in Real Life – Meet Your Dean: The Person Behind your Programme

Welcome to Law in Real Life, a podcast series from Undergraduate Laws at the University of London exploring the people, experiences, and opportunities that shape legal education beyond textbooks, exams, and courtrooms.

In this special episode, Meet Your Dean – The Person Behind the Programme, we are joined by Patricia McKellar, Dean for Undergraduate Laws at the University of London. This conversation offers students a unique opportunity to hear directly from the person leading one of the world’s most diverse global law programmes.

Together, we hear her vision for Undergraduate Laws, and the exciting developments shaping the student experience across our international community.

“We’re always researching what new modules we have to deliver for students to make sure that they are employment ready… We’re also looking at more business-focused content… areas of digital law as well… and local content for students who are studying our programme in many different countries.”

Whether you are a current student, prospective applicant, or simply curious about legal education, this episode offers a unique insight into the leadership behind the programme and what’s on the horizon.

So wherever you are in the world, grab your favourite drink, get comfortable, plug in your headphones, and join us for the conversation.

And once you’ve listened, we would also love to hear from you. If there are any non-academic topics, themes, or real-world issues you would like future episodes to explore – such as careers, student experiences, wellbeing, social impact, motivation, or life beyond study – please leave a reply below with your suggestions. Your ideas and experiences help shape future conversations in the Law in Real Life podcast series.

  1. Good morning!
This is a very insightful discussion. The inclusion of ADR is very welcome. However, the reintroduction of Employment Law is also essential. We would expect to see a compulsory module on the legal system of the students’ relevant home country.

    Kind regards,
    Wali

  2. Hello,
thank you for offering this. I was wondering if you could shed some light on two areas of law I am interested in pursuing. 1) Canon Law 2) Elder law. Thanks

  3. Sounds like the micro-credentials can encourage curious students to learn and hone new professional techniques!

Client interviewing and advocacy would boost interests among students who wish to enter the legal profession!
